Thanks,
I got a lot of interesting answers.  I'd read about the chewing which is why I thought a solarium might be the answer; I'd hate to have an electrical wire get chewed.  It's good to know that the can be "potty trained."  I once trained a rabbit to go in the bathtub, there were a few accidents, but it wasn't all over the house.  I wouldn't mind a few accidents;  I just was afraid of  turning living quarters into a sewer.  Thanks again.

If you love birds you will also have to learn to love cleaning poo.  I have had birds for about ten years a grey for about a year and poo is just one part of the package.  I just keep plenty of cleaning supplies on hand and take this part of keeping birds as a daily chore like cooking and washing dishes.  You will find that your grey's poo is like super glue and will need to be chiseled off floors, tables, furniture, counters, and cages.  Shocked Shocked  Whenever Ruby is out I just try to have wipes handy and clean as she goes so to speak.   Undecided  Good luck and enjoy all the positive things you will gain from keeping a grey.  My Rudy is a sweetheart and funny too.  She is very worth all the cleaning I have to do.

Thanks for the list.  I have been wondering what would be safe or unsafe to put on my screened in porch next spring.  I'd like to get some hanging baskets and a couple of potted plants but didn't this year because I didn't know what would be okay for Ruby.

This case gets even better!  According to his sister, the story is not as clear as the papers make out, he'd found homes for the pups but the new owners brought them back because they weren't putting weight on he 'tried to help them' but nothing seemed to work and he thought they were dead so he put them in the bin.  In the story it says the pups were only 8 weeks old  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked  Since when are pups taken from a mother that young even assuming his story is true and if that is the case why did he use every other excuse in court  Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

Here is what the court said :“We feel rather than displaying deliberate or wilful neglect, you were ignorant to the upkeep needed for the welfare of these animals.”

You really don't need any "knowledge" to know that putting live puppies in bins are wrong and cruel! Even dead ones! You bury them! It is what humanity calls for, and being human should help with that! Angry

Why do these people get off so easily?

Hello, yes ukgrey is right, boy if I could post I would also share pictures of what a Grey can do! But it's not just Greys, but parrots in general are destructive. My Pionus and Caiques will chew as well.

Keeping a second Grey behind while the other one is free outside will not guarantee you his return! Even people who think they have mastered free flying without a harness has lost their Grey! Just a matter of time.....

It has taken me several weeks to get my head around time and parrots...  to them 12 months is really not so long a time...  all we can really do is be their friends...  they choose us...  they are not slavish in devotion like some pets we bring into our home.  It really does sound that Echo is coming along in leaps and bounds in a parrot time scale.  He may never like people near his cage, he has a strong personality, you have done great things, never doubt yourself as a bird mum.  Your doubt is only there because you want to do the right thing by Echo, but you are, so try to stop worrying that you are not.
