Biting
« on: January 12, 2012, 03:01:52 PM »
Hello all
Havnt posted for a while, i thaught i would give it some time before sending an update!
Bella is still biting and doesnt seem to learn not to. I try avoid getting bitten, but doesnt always work.
Still not interested in step ups at all, and this is where she gets upset when i try. Could it be that perhaps i just got the wrong bird and she has a mental block with me?
Really keen to cuddle and play like other people are doing with thier greys!
One thing i dont do is push her, i give her her space, but she still wont bond.
Any suggestions?

Be patient, Ruby loves me, will even do mating dance and try to feed me.  But she never has really cuddled with me.  She allows lots of neck scratching and that is about as close to a cuddle that she will take.  She wants to be near me but is content to perch on the chair arm or back.  As for playing I just give her a couple of foot toys or some paper to destroy and she is happy for a while then just wants to sit with me.  Not all will cuddle.  Keep trying with Bella and remember that she will have to be the one to make the first move.  She is still getting to know you and learn that you are not a threat but that you are her best friend.

Check out Bev Penny's site, living with parrots.  Bev teaches ABA and can be an excellent resource for learning to understand and have a wonderful relationship with you Bella.
I have graduated from crazy cat lady to crazy bird lady.  Mommy to Cody (grey)  Sonny (citron) Cher(U2) Chicken (Ducorp) Sunny and Maggie (quakers)  4 kids, and an entire menagerie of other critters.
