Nothing bad being said about any product recommended from your reliable source, I also believe pro biotics are a good thing. I am not familiar with the product but a probiotic boost I am sure would not hurt either way. It is the good bacteria needed for the body to ASSIST in fighting the bad bacteria.
But obviously the bird is some what out of sorts enough for you to mention on the forum that you thought the bird was not feeling himself....yes ? Enough of a concern you contacted the source of your advice to use the Avipro...yes ?
This tells me that the bird has a concern, a ailment of sort. These out of character signs are your clues, the clues that we are told to watch out for, the clues that make one not sure.

Now if one only takes the bird to the veterinarian when bad times happen then the bird is more likely to find more stress in the visit, where as a bird that visits for a annual check up (preventative maintenance) is less likely to have such a difficult time with the familiar handling when such a time is needed.
The beak trim as you described as bleeding all over the place and traumatic really does not sound very professional and possibly a different avian veterinarian be required rather than none at all.
I do wish Hector well
