sun burn?

can parrots get sun burn? i'm not sure if i've heard of this before. yesterday we were out in the sun,well not much sun because it was a cloudy day until late in the afternoon,i took a towel out to cover half jaspers cage but didnt think i'd need to use it 

last night i noticed he was a bit pink around his cheeks,he was a bit warm so i put it down to that. not so much pink this morning,he's ok and everything so i'm not worried there,i just wondered about sun burn. in future though i'll always cover half his cage

Unless being indoors depletes them of some natural protection in their feathers or skin, and as long as they have some shade if they want I wouldn't worry about it, most of them come from places with some pretty strong sun.

If I take Koosie in the shower when I am showering she gets flush in the white around her eyes, this is normal, I wouldn't worry about it.

According to the article, they CAN get a sunburn, so the best thing to do is give the choice of sun or shade. In the wild, I suppose they can hide under the shade of the tree if they want, so it makes sense.

i did take a towel outside,but as i said it was a cloudy day. jasper is fine and next time i will put a towel over half his cage,whether it's cloudy or not
