Nesting soon!
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:58:18 PM »
Since today evening Amigo and Felicity have increased the use of their nestbox. Felicity spent hours examining it and making herself comfortable. She seemed to like it but didnot like it when i interfered. Both Amigo and Fel became aggressive when i opened the box.
I think Fel maybe getting ready to lay in a couple of days or so. She has been a prolific layer and has produced over 2 dozen nestlings at her previous home. I can't for when she lays. Will keep you guys posted on it. I think it will be Amigos first clutch but i think it is the experience of the hen that will count most.

Wish me good luck.

I could if I absolutely fell in love with it, but right now I have promised the next six chicks to friends and family.

Better news. I was out shopping today. I bought four more proven pairs of greys for breeding. I was also lucky enough to find the only proven pair of Scarlet Macaw in Pakistan. Had to pay $6000 equalent for the pair though. Scarlet macaws have only bred one young in Pakistan after 20 years of attempts and this was the pair that gave birth to that one chick. Somehow the conditions here are not favorable to their breeding. The chick hatched a month ago and is the only handreared Scarlet in Pakistan and has a pricetag of $4000.

I had breeding cages built for the greys and I had to get a breeding freeflight avairy built to ensure the Macaws get a favorable environment. I hope they end up breeding on my farm. Fingers crossed.

Wish me goodluck

will take pictures the next time i go to the farm. The avairy for the Macaws is not yet built, they will start building today. Its 2 meters by 2.5 meters base and 3 meters high. I am also getting an extra built because i plan to get a pair of Hyacinths in the future.
