Just another day at destruction ranch.
« on: February 03, 2011, 09:42:04 PM »
I cannot believe it but Ruby has found a new way to escape.  She has removed one of the bars from the side of the cage.  This has created three inch high hole that she simply crawls through.  I knew that her cage was very old but I didn't know that she would be able to disassemble it.  She is at this very moment trying to disassemble her travel cage in the same way.  I have been on line looking at cages because we are snowed in as most everyone else in central and northern US states.  I've been hoping that I could wait until the Tulsa Spring Bird Fair to buy a new cage for her but that is not until March I think something will have to be done before then.  Anyone got any suggestions for plugging up the hole until the bird fair?  Kathy

Get a piece of plexiglass, cut it to cover the hole, drill a hole in each corner and use stainless steel hose clamps(get at a boat store) and clamp the plexi over the hole. Original Koosie also chewed away the welds on her bars when we finally overcame the Houdini successes.. For right now if you have an extra clamp on bowl you might be able to use the frame to obstruct the hole.

SeanM,

The Plexi glass does sound like a good idea but I think considering the age of this cage I'd be buying more plexi in a matter of days.  For the time being I am going to play musical cages.  I am moving Sweetie to the travel cage since she is a quacker and the travel cage is actually the size many people use for Quackers.  Ruby will go into Sweeite's larger dome cage that is 17" x 22" by 36" and that will be my temporary fix.

If you are then head over to Airway supply on Admiral by the scary walmart.  They have some nice cages and their prices are not horrendous.

Also look at walmart online.  They have some very nice cages and their pries are not bad either.  You can probably do site to store and save on shipping.

by the scary walmart.
That doesn't narrow it down much ;D ;D ;D

I don't think I would buy a cage or anything else for my fid from walmart.

If you are in Tulsa or near there you are that close to me.  I am in Muskogee.  I am in and out of Tulsa all the time.  Have you ever  been to the bird fair?  It isn't a huge offering but they do have many things that I can't get anywere except on line.  I'll check out the Airway supply.  I am assuming the scary Wal=mart is the one close to the traffic circle.  I haven't been over there in years.  I usually go the the one in Broken Arrow because it is on the way home.  Thanks for the tip.  If you can make it to the bird fair we might be able to meet and have lunch or something.  I noticed that your kids are about the same age as my Katie they might enjoy getting to know each other.  Not many of Katie's friends have birds.

By the way can you believe all this snow?  I have been stuck here since Tuesday and we are all getting stir crazy.

It would depend on the cage.  Some of their on line items are like those you'd see on any site.  But I have not seen anything from Walmart that I want for my fids either.

Yes, you have the right scary Walmart.  The online cages are the same ones that I have seen on other sites, including ebay.  Their online offerings are actually pretty impressive.

Airway is between the scary Walmart and the traffic circle. It is on the South side of the road, it is run by a little old couple.  It is like an old variety type store, but they also have a huge bird room and supplies.  Their stuff is pretty reasonable.

Besides having absolutely no faith or trust in walmart for anything, specially something that could have an effect the health of my fid I have serious ethical issues with walmart and will do no business with them at all.

Lisa I think I know that area okay and will try to check out Airway the next time I'm in Tulsa.  How do you like all the now?  I am ready for this stuff to melt and go away.  I can't believe that it snowed almost all day today.

I am totally over it.  I do not like to be cold, I hate being wet and cold.  Fortunately I finally got my work week in and don't go back until late next week.
Unfortunately they are calling for up to a foot more of this mess.  I think I am moving to Florida!

Did a lot more than watch the special I did a lot of research and refuse to contribute to that garbage company that has done so much damage to the country. They are as bad as opec.

Lisa,

I've been snowed in here because there was a drift so big behind my car I couldn't get my car out.  I just took the days off work but if we get another foot next week I'll have to hire someone to shovel the snow out of the way (thank goodness I have a neighbor whose son will probably help  out) to get to work.
