Bird Flu - Congo African Grey
« on: January 18, 2011, 05:15:53 AM »
Hi friends,

Hope you will be keeping fine and shine....

I have just adopted a CAG, don't know about his/her age as purchased from a local pet shop as petshop owner said he is around 1 year old. (grey eyes)

I am just wondering about health and safety of myself and my family. Heard some news of bird flu in some countries. I want to examine my bird to some avian but I am unable to find any avian expert in Karachi, Pakistan. Could any one help in this regard ?

I already have two cocktails since last few years, they are fine, as they were local bread, but in grey case he is not local bread that why i am more concern about subject.

lots of more question but i will try to post at relative category : )

thanks,

kins23

donot worry about avian flu with your grey. He is more prone, to diseases you can introduce. You CANNOT get a bird flu, from your new baby. I PROMISE! ( I am a medical person). Learn, what you can do, to protect your new baby! Enjoy! They are truly amazing.   Nancy and Sophie

thanks kins23 for you time and reply,

I am very much fond of greys as their intelligence and talking ability, although i always take good care in terms of health specially for my 3 years doll : ) about her vaccinations, hygiene, food etc.

she is more likely happy with my new grey (einstien) she use to sit infront of cage and ask Einstien will you eat corn... eat...eat...lolz...

so i dont want her (or any family member) to get any disease. Is there some general vaccinations for birds like we have for our toddlers??

Nancy's right, the name is misleading and the cull of birds in britain was unnecessary.  The flu virus has a lot in common with a virus that bits get, however, it's mutated and unlikely for a bird to carry that particular flu virus.  Same for swine flu.

Hello and welcome Atif Kamal from a fellow Karachiite, Ali/Captain. I've got my greys in the house for the last 2 years now, and I've got two children, one of them had been treated for asthma in the past but I have no problems, none whatsoever, relating to getting any flu or other disease from my birds.

We would be happy to learn more about your grey. If you need my assistance about where to get the feed, cage, etc. please do not hesitate to drop me a private message so that 'somebody' on the forum should not threaten to fiddling with my buttons (don't worry too much about the last remarks, they understood, whom these were addressed to).
