Just make sure that it is not still 'rooted' to the ground. I know the feelings, as recently the authorities have done some cutting of large branches of the road side trees, and every day until they were removed, I thought of taking some home and make an improvised 'tree' by placing a large piece with brances, upright into a big pot and fill it with rocks, pebbles and sand. Must be a good landing tree for the birds, but I wasn't too sure where this arrangement would land me as I've got a wife too who's not too fond of the birds and the space they occupy.

Feika... I can't believe your wife is not too fond of the birds! Obviously, she is very fond of you. She's a saint!
I am lucky that they have their own room. Approx 16 by 20 feet. Of course they have LOTS of plastic under their cages and gyms, so they don't take up the whole room. Hardwood floors, which are bird friendly. When I refinished them, I had LOTS of finish put down. Occassional bird poop on the hardwood, comes up easily with warm wet towel. It does wear on the finish, so I had that in mind when I asked for several coats of finish.
After furthur thought about the beautiful driftwood gym I found along Ontario Lake, I knew I would have to bring my chainsaw to cut it. It wouldn't be the same.Kiki won't miss, what she never saw!  Nancy
