breeding ages for a congo african grey
« on: October 26, 2009, 03:14:23 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have a 17 year old Afican Grey. I was wondering how old the bird can be to mate and if there is an age limit on when they are not able to mate? I'd sure appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Terri

I believe they are mature enough to start breeding around 5 or 6 years of age. Now considering that they can live as long as 65 years in their natural habitat and upto 35 years in captivity is no surprize either. So I guess 17 is a pretty good age for breeding your parrot. But you need to be mindful of his mineral/nutritional needs.
