what does this mean
« on: August 08, 2009, 05:57:45 PM »
wasn't really sure where to post this.
well i have noticed billy do it twice now.

what it is, is that he will lift his foot up, then it will shake like mad as if he isnt controlling it, so he grabs it with his beak to stop it from happening.

just wondering if any one else has witnessed it ? and is it normal?

he is fine, currently sneaking up and jumping on a newspaper to attack it  :D

i am sure i read something like this that can be common in a different species of parrot, was it Amazon maybe?

as i am a million miles away from an avian vet its extremely hard to get anything done. i have a vet 5 minutes up the road, although he is not avian he said he has had a lot of experience with exotic birds, so i normally take to him. i know its not the best but its better than traveling 2-3 hours.

He had blood work done (at the avian vet 2-3 hours away), but not for a while. Everything came back fine, i think it was middle - end of last year he had it done.

i have been watching him, and he has not done it since yesterday. I dunno maybe it was a twitch???

Ive never seen my bird do it so I couldnt really say. It could be a number of things really.

Twitch, allergic reaction, or maybe just a habit the bird picked up. Is it ok otherwise?

Captain is used to doing like she lifts her left foot (only the left, I have never seen her doing it with her right foot, I think!) as if she is saying hi, and then grabs her beak with the toes in a cup like shape and then start grooming the beak and nails.
Don't know if this information could be of any help to you, but I thought I may share.

Could've been just a twitch or a bit of cramp.

Jasper sometimes holds one foot out flat (usually his right one) and waves it up and down when he wants to come out of his cage but i've never seen him grab a hold of it after.
