I heard that roundish cages were good for greys. is that true?

i agree, i think the shape is up to the person, but the birdies prefer a good sized cage with the proper bar spacing...

I've heard that round is bad for greys.  They need a corner to hide in or they can become stressed out.  It should also be against a wall or in a corner.

The good thing about dome cage is that you can shine your UV lamp from above.

That's true.  I still haven't gotten a full spectrum light and that's one of the reasons.   I need to get Lulu's calcium levels checked.  I recently heard that we need a lot more vitamin D than they previously thought.  I wonder if it's good for birds.

What do u mean when you say a round cafe? Do u mean a round top such as a dome, Victorian, roman, or do u mean a circular shaped cage?
A round top is fine, u can choose any styling that suits u, however a flat top or a play gym top gives an area for the grey to forage.
A round cage is a big big no no! The cage should have distinct 4 corners! And try to put the cage in a place where at least one side is against the wall. All of this is important to make your grey feel more secure and less wary ofcourse.

Cheers

They need a firm wall behind them to feel secure.

I also heard that round ones, where the top comes to a peak, are bad because the bars narrow as the get further to the middle and can mean the bird can trap it's feet.

good point there...i've not seen one so wouldn't know for sure...
...what i do know is- i've moved cjs' night cage...it is now in the hall, somewhat 'cornered' by two short walls, a closed interior door behind, and his covering in front...and he has been "sleeping in" since! lazy bird! LOL...he seems to like that comfort, being somewhat enclosed by the walls and door  ;D

Good thought provoking point Nancy. Come to think of it, almost all adult birds in the jungle start their families and have at least a nest (which has only a hole for an opening) for resting and family business. In your case it seems that CJS has now had his own--walled home instead of bars.
So I guess covering at night becomes a "must do" rather than a "can do" as our greys mature.
