Please Help. need some advise....
« on: January 11, 2009, 05:06:36 AM »
I am interested in buying or adopting a Grey.  I have been told that sometimes it may be to get an older bird whom is already past its sexual maturity aging so that it will bond with you as an equal, not like in the case if it were a baby looking to bond with its mother.  Have I totally confused you all.  I AM CONFUSED.  Please I will take any advice.

If this is your first grey I would recommend adopting but not an older bird. If you have experience with greys then im sure you could handle the problems an older bird might have. I recently adopted a 13 month old timneh african grey. She has some bad habbits that im currently trying to get her out of but on the whole shes been great!

You could look on the buy/sell/trade section here . there are always greys that need homes

Yes i totally agree, if you have the experience then no problem with an older one....but if you are new to it..i think a younger one would be alot better for you

I agree, wally came to us at 14 and although we have known him all his life and my hubby has had a relationship with him all that time he would try to attack me.  I am his main carer and it has taken 6 months for him to accept me and we are only just at the stage where he will step up for me.  I wasn't totally ignorant but i have found him a challenge
