After losing Georgie who we rescued (still had to pay for him) I searched the internet for another and found several breeders but none of them had any babies or if they did they had either been sold or had only just hatched.
I left a phone message on one and within seconds the man called me back. He said he had 2 babies left and they were ready to go. I couldn't wait so I said I'd be up to see them the next day, He's in Blackburn Lancs and I'm in Derby, He was going to Swansea that day to pick up a breeding pair but says he'll be be back by 4pm. We got to his house exactly the same time he got back..Lovely clean set up and all his birds were well cared for...The two babies were lovely and we handled both of them. I went for Alfie because he was the one that cuddled up to me and kept nuzzling my neck. I also think I got a bargain when I look at the prices on other sites or from pet shops I paid £580 including some food and hatch certificate. I now have one spoilt African Grey....lol  :)

I live in Alabama, birds are not a big thing here.  They also cost  more usually $1200 or more and poor pickings.  I wanted the bird for in the truck while I work.  I inquired with several "experts" on Grey's, I did not want a long tail and mid size was important.  I was told that a young bird could be accustomed to the truck but an older bird would never adapt.  I went to my son's for Christmas in Missouri.  I had checked a few pet shops and one had a little black eyed beauty loose in the shop.  I inquired of age and price and it was $800, had been sexed and banded with paperwork from being hatched in Oklahoma.  I played around with her for a few minutes and bought her.  The pet shop owner told me several lies the main one not telling me that she had been sold and returned.  Other than the fear, she was a great personality and definitely hand fed.  The pet shop owner did supply a small used cage to transport her.  She was scared to death for a month, shivering with fear.  She went right into the truck in the middle of winter.  She slowly came around and was soon my buddy.  I kept her on the food that she was on for a couple of months then went to Zupreme.  Half of the food was wasted so I talked with a vet about it and went to Cocktail food.  The same pellets but smaller and last twice as long.  Now she eats everything I eat.  I do shy from Mexican food due to not familiar with it enough to know what has avocado in it.  She gets real upset when I eat and she does not get any.  I usually giver her treats while I am eating, but she knows the difference.

I just put her in a new cage and she spent the afternoon beaking every bar, nook and cranny.  Just added some new perches and she is playing now so I guess the cage is a keeper.  I did transfer her toys and food dishes so she would not be totally lost.  I probably hold the record for the largest cage in a truck.  It is 24 x 24 x 46 from the floor to the top and is flat topped so she can climb around up there.  Now she is back above window level and she does like to watch out the window.  Only thing that spooks her is the windshield wipers in a rain storm.  Of course they are big, 24 inches.

She is four years old now.

I love all the stories, but especially the one about the grey who was rescued from the bar. Blessings to you, my dear woman for saving this lovely bird. The pictures are great!

Adopted. Jake introduced himself to someone my husband works with. They were unable to care for him, and since I had always wanted one (it was supposed to be my graduation to myself) we adopted him. He has been such a joy and I am absolutely thrilled to have him!

Everybody's stories are so sad and/or amazing there are so many great people on this site! :)

I had wanted a grey all my life ever since seeing Dr. Pepperburgs work with Alex (now after reasearching greys and watching some of the video's of Alex I have begun to slightly resent how stressed all the work Alex did throughout his life made him) I had never been alowed birds growing up (too noisey and messy according to my parents) When I met my hubby I knew I had met my soulmate a bird lover :P We first rescued Charlie our cockatiel from his mother's. Charlie (origionally Cody but we changed his name to Charlie because he bites :P "Charlie bit me" lol) had belonged to his brother who at 17 was not interested in caring for animals, and his mom had well simply forgot he was in the basement  :o The poo in the cage was so high it was coming up the grate! Hubby and I cleaned the cage out and after several bites managed to clip his wings (we had a towel and gardening gloves and it still hurt!) we then tricked his mom into letting us take him home, and he has been doing quite well since then. He still doesn't like to be handled much but I can hold him now and even pet him occasionally he gets in a mood and you get nipped (he drew blood on hubby this afternoon after his bath, which he LOVES!) I love Charlie very much, but I wanted a baby parrot to bond with and play with, and because of the progress with charlie, hubby (who in the past had owned an umbrella cockatoo but had to find her a new home because of deployments) decided I was ready for a larger parrot and I instantly said I WANT A CAG! and the search began. We didn't have a thousand dollars to adopt and managed to find an affordable CAG from a breeder close by. I was a bit leary at first, but we went out to see her and it was love at first sight. She climed right up into my arms and snuggled with me the whole time we were there. Needless to say after some feeding training for formula (she's not fully weaned) and some paperwork signing I left with my new baby snuggled into my neck and covered with a blanket. Lucy and Charlie are still not quite getting along we have a bit of sibling rivalry, but occasionally Charlie will seranade Lucy with his repertoire (Wolf whistle, Kill Bill theme, Chocobo song, and his own mix we call the Charlie remix) All five of us (we have a dog name Rasta who LOVES Lucy because they have a game where she drops pellets for the dog and she runs to eat them) are now living happily ever after :D
Walking through the front door and being greeted with a WOOOO has made every day awesome!
