painting a cage?
« on: October 08, 2007, 05:44:32 AM »
While I'm waiting for my baby CAG to get old enough to come home I have plenty of time to get ready.  I bought a fantastic cage (used to house a Cockatoo).  It has some missing paint, no rust.  Is it safe to paint a cage?  What type of paint is recommended?  What type of paint must be avoided?

Thank you for your input.

Dart, waiting for Gracie

I would reccomend something that is safe for children's furniture... there are some really great products out there... spray on and brush paint... obviously NON LEADED paint!  :o :o

Don't know where you live but Wal-Mart & Home Depot/Home Hardware might be a good place to start...

Hurry Up And get here GRACIE! ;D

epoxy paint is the best... they might have it in a spray can.

Bring it to a car body shop and ask them if they can powdercoat it for you. Shouldn't cost very much and you get a superb custom job.

And I guess I shouldn't have to ask, cause you recommended it,  but just to be sure this kind of paint job is non toxic?  KJ

It's what all colored cages are "painted" with :) It's like a polymer that's baked on at a super-high temp.

Oh Good, cause I've lost some paint on mine in a couple of places, so I want to repaint the whole thing in a different color.  I like the white ones.  KJ
