Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to give you an update on Sydney and ask you all for some advice. About 4 weeks ago I bought Sydney a brand new cage. When Sydney was in her OLD cage, she used to climb up to the play top area and when I said "Time to go in your room", she would climb back down and go back into cage and I would give her a treat. It was great!
Well, her new cage has an even bigger and better play top area. Sydney learned in no time how to climb her way up to the top. However, it's a little more scary for her coming down (she has a bum leg, so it's a little more difficult for her to get around than most CAGs). She hasn't quite figured out how to do it, so she gets stuck on top. When I try to get her to step up on a stick, she runs from it (I think she associates the stick with bad things because her previous person only handled her to clip her wings

. Anyways, after she runs from the stick for a bit, she then takes off in a a sort of half flight (her wings were clipped before I got her, but I think they are starting to grow back). She lands on the ground, and then flutters down the hallway. I then walk over to her, put the stick in front of her, and she hops right on without any more problems. I then carry her back to her cage and put her in it.
My questions are.... how do I get her to stop doing this? How do I get her to trust me to step up on the stick? How do I her to stop running and flying /fluttering off? And, do you have any ideas of what I could do to help her climb back down into her cage? Should I put an extra perch on the outside part of the cage... or maybe a ladder?
I would appreciate any suggestions!
Julia
