Flight training
« on: September 07, 2007, 01:30:27 PM »
Is there anyone here who has flight trained their AG? It'd be interesting to hear any anecdotes and stories on how they achieved this.
Does anyone here believe that flight training is a bad idea?
Does anyone plan to flight train? Where will they go for advice on this, or have they already decided on the method they will use?

I'm assuming you're thinking of using a flight harness.

I've never used one for Paka, but here's a list of posts on the subject.

Tip of the Day!

My friend's mum recently pointed out that I have the same ironing board cover as her. Can anyone think of a more mundane and pointless remark to make than this?

Hi Linzy,
I've read a few articles where people have trained their birds to fly back to them at command, as well as some other basic instructions. Obviously a flight harness has got to be the safest way to fly your bird, but if a bird was ever lost, or escaped, it seems that having taught these commands would be a huge benefit in retrieving them.

Most greys that escape know recall. When they get a taste of freedom - they change completey. Most likely wont listen to you even with treats - the biggest problem is when the bird flie up a tree then too scared to come down - they dont get that high when only learning to fly so it scares them. And when you realize that ur grey is out of you're control - the fear in you're voice repels them. And they might now feel like going to yiu - why shouild they when they can go explore all new sights an smells.

I would highly reccomend you get a harness.
