What do I do for aspergillus?
« on: July 18, 2007, 09:10:06 PM »
More of Keiko's blood work came back today.  No beak/feather disease, negative for Polynoma and Chlamydia but she does have a high count for aspergillus.  She is already taking antibiotics for Pasturella which will also help with aspergillus, but is there anything else I can do?

This high count came back on a blood redraw 3 weeks after being on 2 general antibiotics.  The count was probably higher on the first blood draw but the lab accidentally tossed that and we had to do a second blood draw.  I understand these are airborne spores so I have put an air purifier close to her cage.  I use newspaper in the bottom of the cage.  Other suggestions?

Not trying to change the topic, but if your bird is coming up with all these molds in her system, have you considered what yours might look like? Have you been checked?

I lived my life in a home where we had black mold that wouldn't go away and our health was trashed for a very long time even after we moved out.

I ve wondered exactly how bad this is for my health??Moving isnt an option right away.If I couldmove I would.I did put a dehumidifier in the S.unit but its a huge building.Im wondering what kind of air cleaner works bestfor mols ?Any info would be appreciated!!!!Thanks..........Ps The management wont do anything

Thanks for the feedback.  Our home is brand new so I don't think it's the house.  The vet says aspergillus is an age old problem and we have had aspergillus spores since we have had dirt.  The area I live in has very, very low humidity so we typically do not have much of a mold problem....not like they do on the coast anyway....but we do have a lot of dust.

I was hoping for some things I could do to help with recovery.  I'll check that article...thanks!
