Dino has a cold
« on: July 07, 2007, 04:22:05 PM »
 :( :(

He hasnt been himself but I put it down to the move .. he has been with me about 4 - 5 weeks now.

Then 3 days ago his nose started to run and his eyes.. I think he had been incubating it for a couple of weeks my vet agrees because about 2 weeks ago he went very quiet. He is also moulting and I think all of it has come at once for him..

The move
The moulting
The cold

Poor chap is very sad.

My vet has given me antibiotics to put in his water and also one he has to have skirted into his beak.

He is also getting vitamin A suppliment because prior to me having him all he would eat was sunflower seeds.

He refused to eat fruit or greens.

At the moment I am happy that he eats at all and will try to persuad him to try other things when he is better.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Befor he got sick I was slowly having sucess with strawberries, orange and apple but now he just sits and sulks and only eats if I put the sunflower seeds in.

Just a note to say Dino is better the antibiotics the vet gave me to put in his water plus a really bitter one I squirted into his beak daily.. amazingly easy with a very grumpy parrot.

While he was attacking the syring I just squirted and befor he knew it he had had his medicine.

Glad to say he is almost back to normal.  ;D still throwing his fruit on the floor and demanding only sunflower seeds, but now he is better I can be a bit stricter with his diet.

Glad to hear Dino is doing better! Just hand in there with the friuts and veggies. He may just decided one day that he loves them. Have you tried putting his veggies or friuts in first thing in the morning with some of his seed mixed in and then wait a couple of hours to see if he will try any of it?

I have tried everything he just flings them out on the floor !

I even bought a kebab stick .. he is very persistant but i am so glad to see his cheeky character coming out, it was the move that upset him plus he decided that that was also a good time to moult so the poor chap was at his lowest right from when he arrived.

He has only been with me about 6 weks so it is early days, I think he willcome round eventually, he does seem to be picking through the new food I bought him which has dried fruit in it and no sunflower seeds !! every day I give him  a handfull of sunflowr seeds because I know he needs some in his diet but I have stopped giving him permanent access to them. He likes peanuts as well.
